‘You can’t leave humanity out. If you didn’t have humanity, you wouldn’t have anything’
Alice Neel
If you are interested in working together, there are a few options – we can talk about your needs, preferences and goals (if you have any), and what would work best for you.
Stories are Magic: Focus on creativity
If you’re a creative person who wants to get unstuck or superpower their process, we can talk about your approach to yourself, to art; how your history and ingrained beliefs inform your current story. We can specifically discuss your current ideas and how you feel about them – or come up with some ideas together.
This will probably be an agreed, time-limited process, depending on your objectives – this could vary from one session to twenty. We can chat about what’s best for you.
‘I think if you feel like you were born to write, you probably were’
Lena Dunham
Stories are Healing: Focus on therapy
The focus here is on therapy, and how telling your story out loud in an empathetic, non-judgemental and creative space might help you to understand yourself and the world in a way that works for you. You can talk and I will listen. You may or may not want to do some writing exercises outside of our sessions to discuss together (or keep to yourself), and these may provide you with tools to continue after our work together has ended. I can work with you to give you ideas about telling your story – to me, to yourself or to others – but it will always be at your pace, in a way that suits you. It’s a collaborative process.
This can either be time-limited (starting from six sessions), or can be open-ended (ongoing therapy). Again, we can chat about what’s best for you.
‘Writing is a form of therapy; sometimes I wonder how all those who do not write, compose or paint can manage to escape the madness, melancholia, the panic and fear which is inherent in a human situation’
Graham Greene
Stories are universal: Focus on community
I believe in the power of community. I believe that the personal is universal, and that it is healing to share our stories and to hear those of others. This is a 10-session group course that will meet regularly to share stories and ideas, talk about our processes and what this might bring up for us, and do writing exercises to get to know ourselves better and kickstart our creativity. The group is facilitated by a qualified therapist (me) and will provide a safe and supportive atmosphere. You can share as much or as little as you want – there is no obligation and there is no need to have any creative/writing experience.
‘I am often struck by the dangerous narcissism fostered by spiritual rhetoric that pays so much attention to individual self-improvement and so little to the practice of love within the context of community’
bell hooks
